Cleaning

Glass surfaces are sensitive to dirt and contaminants including labels and the protective plastic film that is used to protect the glass during delivery and installation. Low E and reflective glass have surface coatings that are susceptible to stains and scratches. Care is required during installation and when cleaning.

Clean glass with warm water and mild detergents using a lint free cloth, then rinse. Abrasive cleaners will scratch the surface.

Mirrors require special care. Clean with a few drops of methylated spirits on a damp cloth. Wipe dry with a clean cloth. Too much water or chemical cleaners can affect the silvering. Non acid based bonding components must be used for attaching mirrors to a sealed/painted wall surface.

Storage and Handling

To avoid staining or thermal breakage, store glass sheets out of direct sunlight in a dry, clean and well ventilated environment.

Stack glass vertically, on a slight angle. Protect corners and edges and use separators.

To transport, apply a protective sheet between glass surfaces to avoid scratching and damage in transit. Limit movement by securing well.

OHS guidelines recommend correct glass handling, ensure relevant staff are properly trained.
